Mens 5th Grade 2-Day v Toombul at BGS (3) - 30 October & 6 November 2010
Monday, 15 November 2010
UQCC 203 (J. Coetzee 64, C. Oliver 46) defeated Toombul 195 & 4/41 (M. Gallen 4/32, S. Raveenthiran 2/32)
Great Bowling/fielding comeback when Toombul were 0/135
Gutsy controlled batting from J. Coetzee and C. Oliver
Toss: Toombul
After losing the 4th toss in a row, Uni were made to bowl first on a flat deck. All bowlers were used to try to get the intial breakthrough which eventually came as a runout just prior to tea and saw Toombul at 1/135. Solid bowling from Shell and Alex Peterson, backed up by good fielding saw Toombul's middle order crumble. A steady procession of wickets continued until Toombul were dismissed for 195.
Uni finished 2/24 at the end of the 1st day. Jano Coetzee batted sensibly through the 1st session and was well supported by nightwatchmen J. Patmore. Each time Uni looked to have its nose in front a wicket would fall leaving the match in the balance. After Jano's dismissal for an impressively compiled 64, Cam Oliver tailored his inning to bat with the tail and made sure of reaching the target. Nick DeKroon chipped in with a handy 21 at number 9. Uni achieved the target 8 wickets down with a nervous number 11 on the sidelines. Great team effort boys!
